He cant live with what he didn't do it is eating away at him. He wants Hassan to punish he so they can be even ,but he cant get even. Nothing will let them be even.
Human Condition:
The weight of what he knew and didn't do is eating him. Not knowing what you did wrong hurts? Amir will live with this for the rest of his life.
